ULO Autumn Term Review 2022
There was no time to reLAX at university this term, with our University Lacrosse Officers reporting a fantastic uptake in the game at both beginners and high-performance level! We caught up with three ULOs to find out more…
University College London
UCL reported a substantial turnout at their lacrosse taster sessions last month, suggesting a promising start to the season. Their lacrosse club continues to comprise of Men’s, Mixed, and Ladies teams; with the latter achieving some massive wins against Kings, Canterbury, Hertfordshire, and Royal Holloway. The club also conclude their month-long Movember campaign today. For each one hundred pounds raised, the club have embarked upon a range of inventive incentives, and have already exceeded last years fundraising total!
University of Southampton
Around fifty students joined the University of Southampton’s first training session of the season, and a further fifteen attended trials for their lacrosse team. Seventy players also joined their mixed taster session, with one of this year’s ULOs for Southampton, Katherine Gardner, calling it a fantastic start to the season and a “massive turnout” for the club. Around thirty students have permanently joined and a further ten were appointed straight into Southampton’s competitive teams, demonstrating their strong retention and integration of new players.
University of Warwick
Warwick are also excited to announce a charity ‘rock up and play’ tournament, offering other sports clubs and societies at the university the opportunity to learn some lacrosse basics and participate in a fundraiser match! The event will take place on Thursday 1st December, in support of One Drop Foundation, and is the perfect opportunity for complete beginners to trial playing lacrosse. One Drop is a non-profit organization which aims to ensure access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, by implementing various water initiatives all over the world.
